What this enables
Monta is the infrastructure that powers EV charging for operators across Europe. Its flagship product, Monta Hub, is the charge point management system that operators use to run their networks, with roaming, billing, and monitoring built in. Until now, the roaming coverage available through that built-in infrastructure came from Monta’s existing connections.
With Plugsurfing added, operators on Monta can offer their drivers a wider European charging network on top of that. Their drivers open the operator’s own app or tap their charging card, find a charger anywhere across the connected network, and charge, including on routes far beyond the operator’s own infrastructure.
- Operators keep their own app, backend, pricing, and customer relationship.
- Monta manages the commercial setup, technical connection, billing, and CDR reconciliation.
- Drivers reach a wider network through the EV charging solutions they already use.
How the connection works
The link between the two networks runs on Roam OCPI, the product that delivers Plugsurfing’s managed roaming. Roam OCPI is the single connection that replaces what would otherwise be a long list of individual operator agreements, technical integrations, and invoicing relationships. It handles the parts of roaming that quietly consume a team’s time: normalizing tariff data from across the network, validating the charge detail records of every session, and consolidating what would be hundreds of separate operator bills into one.
In this partnership, that connection sits behind Monta. Operators on Monta do not contract with Plugsurfing directly or build a separate integration. The coverage simply becomes available through the platform setup they already have.
What operators get
- Broader European coverage: Monta’s roaming network grows from more than 600,000 to more than one million active charge points across 26 European countries.
- More high-power charging: drivers reach additional high-power charge points for faster charging on long-distance routes.
- Lower operational complexity: no separate contracts, integrations, or day-to-day relationship management with Plugsurfing.
- Centralized management: CDR reconciliation, billing, and commercial coordination run through Monta.
- Continued operator control: operators keep control over roaming tariffs and the customer experience.
What this means
“Roaming connections like this are what make charging simpler at scale. By connecting Plugsurfing’s European network to Monta’s infrastructure, operators can extend their coverage and improve the driver experience without taking on the operational work behind it. Charging should just work for drivers, and stay simple for the businesses serving them,” said Tom Rowlands, Managing Director, Global EV Solutions at Corpay.
This is what Plugsurfing’s managed roaming is built for: connecting partners to a wider European charging network through one integration, while Plugsurfing handles the operator agreements, data quality, invoicing, and reconciliation behind it.
